From 'disco infernos' to 'chick flicks', treat mum to something a little different this Mother's Day 2014

What mum doesn't love a big bunch of flowers, breakfast in bed, a box of chocolates or a meal that hasn't been cooked by her on Mother's Day in 2014?

Believe us, there is nothing wrong with any of these options. There is a very good reason why they have become the 'done thing' for Mother's Day – because you can't fail to impress.

However, you may have a mum who's allergic to almost every flower known to man. Maybe you can't make toast without burning down the kitchen. Perhaps she's on a diet and may not appreciate that massive box of chocolates (well, she probably will, but the scales certainly won't!). Or maybe you've left booking the table a bit late and are struggling to find a pub or restaurant around Watford with space for your family this Mother's Day.

Fret not – all is not lost. There are some other options, particularly if your mum is 'young at heart'.

Disco Inferno

On Friday 28th March 2014, just two days before Mother's Day, Watford Collosseum is hosting a red hot Disco Inferno night! Now, you may immediately think 'no way is mum going to like that!' But guess what... you know those iconic disco songs, such as Car Wash, I Will Survive and Staying Alive? You know who was dancing to them the first time they came around, long before they became the 'go to' tunes for the uni crowd. Yep, your mum.

Disco Inferno Night is for 25s and over and starts at 8pm.

Chick Flick Fridays

Also on Friday 28th March is a real treat for mums who love films. Chick Flick Fridays take place at Vicarage Road Stadium Conferencing & Events in Watford. Much more than just a screening, your night will include a cocktail on arrival, a sit down meal and the film, which this month is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, starring Oscar-winning dreamboat, Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson.

Starting at 8:30pm, tickets cost only £14.95 per person. A deposit of £10 per person is required at the time of booking.

Sunday Carvery

If your mum is hankering for a traditional meal on Mother's Day, Vicarage Road Stadium Conferencing & Events in Watford is also playing host to a three course Sunday Roast Carvery with live entertainment thrown in for good measure.

With a set sitting at 2pm, the meal costs ï¿¡24.95 for adults and ï¿¡12.95 for under 12's. Booking is a must.

Lunch with Alan Titchmarsh

Ok, so I don't really understand the appeal, but I have it on good authority that there are plenty of mothers who would give their right eye for lunch with expert gardener, television personality and author, Alan Titchmarsh.

And this Mother's Day, you can make your mum's dreams come true (well, the day after at least!) On Monday 31st March 2014, Alan Titchmarsh will be at Chorleywood Book Shop's literary lunch at Chenies Manor near Watford.

Tickets cost £40 and include a sit down, two course meal as well as a copy of Alan's latest book, Bring Me Home.

So there you have it. Some traditional and others 'slightly out there' – perfect for our slightly odd but utterly wonderful mothers!
