Hertfordshire Police are warning Christmas shoppers to be extra vigilant over the festive season after a spate of pick pocket thefts were reported in Watford.

Police are encouraging Watford shoppers to keep wallets, purses and handbags safe from thieves whilst Christmas shopping.

PC Paul Knowles explained: “Having your handbag or purse stolen is a real inconvenience and stressful experience. I would also ask shoppers to never leave their bags unattended whilst out shopping.”

Hertfordshire Police have issued a series of helpful tips to help you avoid theft this Christmas:

  • Keep your wallet or purse in one of your front pockets, not the back one.
  • Use a handbag that has a zip closure and keep it closed at all times.
  • Wear handbags across the body, rather than over the shoulder.
  • Treat your phone or iPod as you would a wallet or purse and keep it under wraps at all times.

Anyone with any further questions regarding safety and security this Christmas can head to the Hertfordshire Constabulary website for further information and help.
