Local Students Honour Walsall’s Women for ‘Queens of the City’ Pop-Up Exhibition

LGK In The Community invites the public to a free pop-up exhibition celebrating the borough’s inspiring women through student art. The event, titled ‘My Queen’ runs 15th to 17th July 2025 at the New Art Gallery Walsall with a special open day on 15th July at 12:30pm.

Background: 

LGK in the Community (Charity No. 118723) delivers creative heritage projects across the West Midlands. The Queens of the City project is funded by Heritage Lottery and part funded by Walsall Council. The project celebrates the heritage of Walsall and focuses on uplifting women’s stories through art, food, and storytelling.

The showcase will feature selected artwork from young artists who paid tribute to women in their lives as part of a Walsall wide art competition.

 

Highlights include: 

  • Launch event (15 July, 12:30pm)
  • Projected highlights from LGK’s heritage project Queens of the City 
  • Behind the scenes footage
  • Display of winning artworks from local students 
  • General exhibition (15th to 17th July, 11am to 4pm daily): 
  • Artwork by selected students from LGK’s International Women’s Day art competition 
  • Two prize winning pieces (£100 and £50 art supplies)
