During the campaign, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, 661 volunteers took part in 48 organised events across the borough. This included strong participation from young people, with 327 children from 11 schools getting involved.
In total, volunteers contributed 1,103 hours of their time, helping to remove approximately 12 tonnes of rubbish, the equivalent in weight of two adult elephants.
This year’s campaign brought together both long-standing volunteers and many people taking part for the first time, including local charities, faith groups and community hubs, reflecting the continued growth of community involvement across Walsall.
The campaign was supported by a number of partners, including Sandwell Litter Watch, Canal & River Trust and whg, helping to maximise its impact across the borough.
A spokesperson for Walsall Council said, “This year’s Great British Spring Clean has once again shown the strength of community spirit across Walsall.
“The scale of what has been achieved is significant, and we are grateful to everyone who took part and supported the campaign.”
Following the GBSC, Walsall Council is encouraging residents to get involved in community litter picking. Equipment such as hi-vis jackets, litter pickers, gloves and bags can be provided.
