SPDs are used by the council to make decisions on planning applications. They provide detailed guidance to explain how existing planning policies should be applied by local authorities. This is so developers know what is expected of them when they submit planning applications.
The draft Natural Environment SPD provides guidance on complying with the existing and emerging Local Plan for Walsall, as well as national policies for the protection of the natural environment.
Items covered in the public consultation include ‘biodiversity net gain’, and protected species and habitats, to ensure the natural environment is properly considered in the development and management process of any new planning applications.
“ This SPD will sit alongside other supporting SPD and planning guidance documents we have previously produced and will supersede our current Conserving Walsall’s Natural Environment SPD once published.
Dave Brown, Executive Director for Environment, Housing and Growth
“This is why it is vital that we receive as much feedback as possible from everyone across the borough. “
