Walsall Group of The Ramblers

  • WS
The Walsall Group of the Ramblers was established in 1992 and is one of over 500 groups that form the Ramblers (Association) nationwide.

If you enjoy walking or are looking to explore the benefits of walking within the local area, then The Walsall Group of the Ramblers is a friendly society that is always looking for new members to join their walking group.

Our Aims

The aims of the group are to promote the benefits of walking to people in the Walsall area. To do this, The Walsall Group of the Ramblers provide six-monthly programmes of walking opportunities in a wide variety of locations.

Walk Programmes

Walk programme events usually take place on Sundays and alternate weekly between Leisure Walks, (up to 7.5 miles), and Main Walks, (10 miles approx.), so that those wishing to join in have every opportunity to chose a suitable walk.

You can be assured that the walk will be right for you as all walks have been fully checked by the walk leaders involved so exact information about terrain, difficulty, condition, etc. can be obtained beforehand. It is possible to attend up to three walks before joining to ensure the group’s offerings are appropriate.

The walk programme is available from the group’s web-site please click here or from the Membership Secretary, (John), on 0121 353 4102.

Walks depart promptly from locations within Walsall each Sunday, with car-sharing in operation to minimise the number of vehicles required. Many walks are provided throughout the year, with closer locations being utilised during periods of reduced daylight hours. However, for reasons of safety dogs are not permitted on walks.

Other Activities

In addition to providing walks, the group also has an active social calendar with at least one event per month so that members can get together, often in a non-walking environment.

There is also a volunteering section within the group who work in partnership with others to fulfil the Ramblers’ wider aims of footpath preservation and countryside conservation. The former relies on links with Walsall Council’s Voluntary Maintenance Programme, (VMP),  which seeks to uphold the condition of Rights of Way within the borough, whilst the latter is undertaken via the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, (AONB),  organisation working to enhance the innate conditions in that area.

The group has a friendly atmosphere and is always looking for new members. There is a great deal of information available about what is happening within the group and photographs of previous walks can be found above.

As an added benefit, Ramblers’ members are entitled to walk with any other Ramblers group in the country by simply contacting the walk leaders involved via the national web-site and quoting their Ramblers membership details.

Walsall Group of the Ramblers follow the Countryside Code:
