This week - 1st-7th June 2010 - is Volunteers Week - a national annual focus on volunteers and volunteering.
Volunteers Week is very important at raising the profile of volunteering and those selfless individuals who contribute to society, and helps to inspire others to do the same. It also helps to dispel the many pre-conceptions we have of volunteering, and the sort of projetcs you can get involved in.
There's still plenty of time to visit the numerous volunteer-based celebrations and events running throughout Tunbridge Wells until next Monday.
More information and a .pdf list of events is available on the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council website, but remember these aren't all limited to this Volunteers Week - many of them run regulalry anyway, and are a great opportunity to get involved in volunteering.
For example, the Kent High Weald Partnership volunteers meet every Wednesday in the meadows and woodlands around Tunbridge Wells, and volunteers get the chance to learn valuable skills such as hedgelaying, boardwalk construction and management of heathlands.
The Kent High Weald Partnership will also be found this Sunday 6th June at the Cranbrook Family Fun Day - look out for their Green Games.
Kentish Delights - a project that gets involved with all aspects of living in Kent, working with museums, artists and filmmakers from the area - will be at the Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 4th June between 10am to 12pm. The team would love to meet new volunteers, or just share with others the work they do.
These are just a tiny portion of what's going on in Tunbridge Wells throughout Volunteers Week - for more information on all the local events, download the programme .pdf from the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council website, and check out the information available on a wide range of local volunteer groups.
Also you can visit the Volunteer Centre Tunbridge Wells to find out more about volunteering opportunities in Tunbridge Wells Borough or telephone 01892 554438.
