This is all that’s left of a Mountain Railway tramcar after it ran away from Snaefell summit.
Tramcar number 3 had been parked just short of the summit station this afternoon when it ran away out of control and crashed north of Bungalow station.
Fortunately there were no passengers or staff were on board - and the tram did not reach the Bungalow road crossing.
The vintage tramcar has been completely destroyed.
Isle of Man Newspapers photographer John Maddrell captured this view of the wreckage.
A spokesman said: ‘A tram parked near the summit has rolled a distance down the track before derailing. It has sustained extensive damage. Nobody was on board the tram at the time.
‘The cause of the incident has not yet been determined and it would be inappropriate to speculate at this stage. An independent investigator has been appointed and is currently on his way to the site.
‘Arrangements are being put in place to transport the passengers back to the station at the earliest opportunity.’
