The ROUND THE ISLAND YACHT RACE 2010 took place on Sunday 2nd May with 28 yachts from around the Irish Sea leaving Ramsey Harbour at 13.30 hours. Good crowds had gathered to cheer on the competitors who had to contend with cold conditions and increasingly temperamental winds.
IOMA Fund and Investment Management were delighted to sponsor the Isle of Man Round the Island Yacht Race 2010.As the yachts struggled to overtake, a particularly tight manoeuvre at the Point of Ayre saw wary fisherman reeling up their rods and retreating up the beach to safety. By dusk the fleet could be spotted crossing Port St. Mary Bay, silhouetted against the setting sun and chicken rock, before heading back on the homerun and into Ramsey Bay around midnight.

Winners were announced by class and division with faster boats being given handicap time penalties. The overall winner was the monohull Eauvation, with overall division winners as follows: Division 1: Seapie of Cultra, Division 2: Honey of Bosham, Division 3: Rice Pudding 1X.

MS&CC Cruiser Captain and Race Committee Member Jerry Colman thanked all the events supporters with special thanks to main sponsors IOMA Fund and Investment Management.

Philip Scales, Managing Director of IOMA Fund and Investment Management said, ‘IOMA have strong links with both the Island’s Viking and seafaring heritage. The group’s founding partners built and sailed a Viking longship from Norway to the Isle of Man to commemorate the millennium of Tynwald. We believe that this spirit of teamwork and adventure still underpins the company today. Sponsoring this event gives us a chance to support local community endeavour in an area that’s particularly relevant to out ethos and origins.’
