The research shows that  while social networking has grown rapidly over the last two years, marketing and public relations professionals fail to show an appreciation of new trends or much understanding of how social media has changed the way marketers communicate with consumers.

"For companies struggling to get to grips with social media, there is a clear gap in available  skills and knowledge as underlined in the Major Players study," said PDMS Managing Director Chris Gledhill. "We've created our Digital Design service to meet this specific need. Our team marries our deep technical understanding of Internet technologies with the significant social media marketing expertise of our team of expert consultants."

The recruitment firm’s study shows that the applicant CVs it is seeing, lack even a cursory mention of social media buzzwords, such as blogging or Twitter.  Out of a sample of 4500 CVs received in the last two years, just 6% reference “social media”, 9% mention Twitter, and a meagre 2% talk about blogging, while 13% include Facebook (though in some this was merely highlighted in the ‘interests’ section).

A knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO) is something employers also see important, yet only 4.7 per cent of CVs include the term.

PDMS Digital Design is the Isle of Man's only specialist social media consultancy. Services include  strategic consulting, digital PR, conversation monitoring & response, corporate blogs, social websites, strategic campaigns, community building, social applications development, content development along with training and coaching services.
