FIRST MANXMAN TO CONQUER EVEREST WILL BE GUEST SPEAKER

Phil Drowley To Address Junior Chamber of Commerce At Monthly Meeting At
The Sefton Hotel 12 November 18:00 GMT
Douglas, ISLE OF MAN - 03 November 2008 - The Isle of Man Junior Chamber
of Commerce today announced that Phil Drowley, local police sergeant and
the first Manxman to conquer Mount Everest, will be the guest speaker for
their 12 November conference which takes place at 18:00 in the Garden Room
of the Sefton Hotel in Douglas. All are welcome to attend and listen.

Phil attempted to climb Everest in 2006 and had to live with the
disappointment of having to turn around on the summit day, because he was
ill, with just 350 metres left to climb. Proving his commitment and
determination, Phil trained especially hard in the run up to his second
attempt to ensure there was no repeat.

Phil became part of Manx history and successfully reached the peak of Mount
Everest, the ultimate climb in May, this year. It took him two and a half
months to climb the 8,850 metres to stand at the highest point on earth and
fly the Manx flag.

Speaking about his adventure, Phil said: "The view from the top of the
planet was truly awe-inspiring - and humbling." He added: "I am
immensely proud to be the first person from the Isle of Man to achieve
flying the Manx flag on top of the world." Phil funded his trip
personally and gained sponsorship from a number of Manx companies and
individuals which he donated to The Isle of Man Friends of Ronald MacDonald
House. He had previously reached the summit of a number of other mountains
worldwide including Kilimanjaro in 2000.

Having reached the highest point man can stand, Phil has now come down to
earth again to share his adventure with others. Steve Burdett, chairman of
the Junior Chamber of Commerce said: "It is a great privilege to have
Phil tell his inspiring and motivating story to our members and guests. We
hope that people from across the community come along to hear his account
of this one-in-a-lifetime experience."

The cost of this event is £10 for members and £12 to non-members. To
confirm your attendance, please telephone Jenny Christian at the Chamber
Offices, +44 (0)1624 674941, or email
