This year’s campaign will feature three men and a woman holding up pledge signs with the words #whiteribbon

White Ribbon Day is a symbolic campaign which demonstrates that domestic abuse is unacceptable.

It sees men - including those in high profile public positions – wearing a symbolic white ribbon to demonstrate that domestic abuse is not acceptable and should not be tolerated.

A number of events are taking place around the borough in the build up to White Ribbon Day on Wednesday November 25 to raise awareness of the campaign.

This includes:

· a social media campaign featuring photographs of prominent people and personaltities in the borough holding up a pledge card

· raising awareness and collecting pledges at sports fixtures including a Telford Tigers game on Sunday 29 November

· a charity football match between the council and the police at the New Bucks Head, also on Sunday 29 November at 1pm. Entrance is free

· a White Ribbon Day Run in Telford Town Park on Saturday November 21

· various events to collect pledges on White Ribbon Day itself including at Southwater One and TCAT

Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Kuldip Sahota said: “I am very proud that here in Telford, we are a White Ribbon Town because that demonstrates our commitment to preventing domestic abuse.

“I would urge residents to pledge their support for the campaign. We have already had a number of local personalities sign up."

“You can pledge your support atwww.whiteribboncampaign.co.uk/telford and tweet or post a selfie pledging support.”

Andrew Mason, chairman of Telford and Wrekin’s Safeguarding Children Board, said: “The Telford & Wrekin Safeguarding Children Board is proud to support White Ribbon Day as preventing domestic abuse and supporting the victims of domestic abuse is one of our key priorities.”
