A family-run butchers in Telford is celebrating British Sausage Week with a bang as it launches two new products.

G. N. Badley & Sons, in Gibbons Road, Trench, is getting into the mood of bonfire night as it begins making the Firecracker, a new chilli flavoured pork sausage, as part of the national celebration which runs from Monday (04/11/2013).

Bosses have also launched a new low fat pork sausage due to customer demand. Operations director Kay Badley said: “The sausage is so versatile and it is much more than a traditional pork sausage these days. We always get involved in British Sausage Week and this year we have made the hottest sausage we have ever created. It has definitely got a kick to it and we look forward to seeing the customers’ reaction as we have different people that like hotter flavours.”

She added: “We heard people discussing diets so often in the shop that we began asking what they missed most whilst dieting and the majority said sausages whether hot or cold in a sandwich or a casserole. Because of this we’ve also created a new low fat sausage too, so people on a diet don’t miss out.”

The shop in Trench has been open since 1976 and is run by Kay and her son Simon (managing director). It is one of only eight butchers in the region that also offers an online order system.

Last year G. N. Badley & Sons launched the Wrekin Banger which was served in every school in the borough. Mrs Badley said the latest products come after a busy year for the company. She said: “Local family-run butchers have had a busy year as following the national horse meat scandal people became more conscious of where their food came from."

"Sausages are still one of the most popular products and the customer likes to get involved, discussing various flavours over the counter. It sparks their imagination.”

The business was founded by Kay’s husband Keith who sadly passed away. Keith followed in his own father’s footsteps, who was also in the butchery trade, and everything is homemade on site at G. N. Badley & Sons.
