Telford and Wrekin Council have receive over 50 'Pride In Your High Streets' funding applications.

Council officers and independent evaluation committees have been assessing the applications received and this process is near completion.

The council has been busy collating the feedback from internal and external teams and still expects to make recommendations to cabinet in January as planned.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Business, Neighbourhood and Customer Services, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who put bids in for their hard work in putting them together.

“We have been amazed and delighted at the sheer variety of proposals we received across all nine High Streets and Local Centres.

“The bids that have come forward have overwhelmingly demonstrated the value community members place in their localities and a passion to develop their unique appeal as destinations in their own right.”

The Pride In Your High Streets fund support the council’s aim of attracting inward investment and supporting existing borough businesses to expand.

The money is split into two different pots - £800,000 for applications aimed at increasing the prosperity and success of specified High Streets and Local Centres and a £200,000 Innovation Fund for original ideas, new activities and cultural events.

The fund has been open to organisations in the following areas: Dawley, Donnington, Hadley, Ironbridge, Madeley, Newport, Oakengates, St Georges and Wellington.

Telford & Wrekin Council is also delivering a Community Pride Fund, a £1.26m pot of money set aside to give funding to community projects that improve the physical, social and economic environment within the borough.

It was launched for bids of up to £100,000 last year and 37 organisations submitted successful bids and many of the projects are now up and running.

The succesful application will be anounced next January 2016.
