The People’s Choice competition organised by the Green Flag Award scheme, announce Telford Town Park as the nation’s 18th favourite park for 2015.

This accolade comes on the same day as an event to celebrate the official flying of the park’s Green Flag which has recently been awarded for the fantastic facilities and upkeep that Telford Town Park proudly strive for everyday.

The volunteer group The Friends of Telford Town Park (FOTTP) is a key partner in ensuring that the park maintains these high standards and has played a significant role in working towards the achievement of the Green Flag Award.

The People’s Choice 2015 top 20 parks were voted for by members of the public.

In the public vote, Victoria Park, in East London's Tower Hamlets, took first place. Regionally, Sandwell Valley Country Park took 17th place.

Telford Town Park has changed dramatically in recent years providing leisure opportunities for all from the play equipment and adventure golf course to the adrenaline inducing high ropes, there is something for everyone, including green landscape and open space to enjoy picnics and games with family and friends.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “We are over the moon to be voted as one of the top 20 parks in the UK. We are incredibly proud of Telford Town Park and how it has developed over the past few years.

“The green space that Telford and Wrekin has is amazing and Telford Town Park is the jewel in our crown. The staff work so hard to maintain the facilities for members of the public to enjoy and it’s fantastic to have this hard work by everyone recognised.

“Our green flag signifies that anyone who comes to our park can be safe in the knowledge that the staff are dedicated to making their visit a pleasant and enjoyable experience, in a clean and safe environment.

“Being voted as one of the best parks in the nation by members of the public is the icing on the cake.”

The FOTTP volunteer group work tirelessly to help maintain and promote the park and are thrilled with the announcement. Chair of the group, Chris Pettman reacted with a “Woo hoo brilliant” when he found out the exciting news.

Green Flag Award manager, Paul Todd, said: “The huge number of public votes we received show just how important parks and green space are to people.”

Three and a half billion visits are made to parks across the UK each year and green spaces are a vital park of healthy communities. When people see the Green Flag Award flying the public can be assured that they are visiting a clean, welcoming and well-managed green space.
