Telford & Wrekin Council and BBC Radio Shropshire are celebrating Christmas with a bigger ‘Carols in Southwater’ event.

The hour long carol sing-along will be broadcast live on radio and streamed online – with five schools singing on the big stage in the build up.

The event will be hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s breakfast duo, Eric Smith and Clare Ashford and Paul Shuttleworth. It will feature Jackfield Brass Band, the Cosford Wives Military Choir and a host of traditional Christmas carols will be sung by the crowd during the broadcast.

The build up to the event starts at 3pm with a special unveiling of tile artwork created by a group of six children in care at Southwater One.

The artwork was created as part of a transition project to prepare the children for the move to secondary school. They have worked alongside staff at Jackfield Tile Museum to produce the mosaic.

From 3.30pm, there will be entertainment provided by a Snowman and a Penguin, special guests from Telford Ice Rink. Schools that will sing on stage during 15 minute slots include St Matthews Primary, Redhill Primary, Millbrook Primary, Wrockwardine Wood Infants and Muxton Primary.

There will be competitions on the day to win two for one passes for Telford Ice Rink. and a family ticket to the Oakengates panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

At 6pm, BBC Radio Shropshire presenters Eric Smith and Clare Ashford will host the hour long carol sing-along outside the new library. Everyone is welcome to drop by and join in.

Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “We’re delighted to be working with Radio Shropshire for the second carols in Southwater event.

“I am sure this will again be a fantastic event for the borough and real chance for us all to come together, spread a bit of Christmas spirit and showcase what this borough has to offer.”

Carols in Southwater will be broadcast live between 6–7pm on 10 December 2015.
