Voter registration forms will soon be dropping through letterboxes across Telford and Wrekin and residents are being urged to respond as soon as possible to ensure they are registered to vote.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Elections Team will be sending forms to every household in the borough from now until the end of August in order to compile the electoral register.
Jonathan Eatough, Assistant Director for Governance, Procurement & Commissioning said: “Registering to vote is simple. You just need to fill in the form with the details of anyone in your household who is over the age of 16 and return it to us as soon as possible.
“There was a lot of interest in this year’s Police and Crime Commissioner elections and the EU referendum and we were pleased with the increase in registration shortly before polling day. However, people may not realise that they need to confirm registration every year.
It is important to respond to the registration form to make sure you are able to take part in any upcoming elections. It also helps make it easier to open customer, savings or credit accounts and take out mobile phone contracts.”
If no details have changed and the form is correct, simply reply by text to 80212, respond online to or freephone 0800 1979871 to save sending the form back.
The electoral registration form allows electors to have their details excluded from the open register, meaning details cannot be bought by individuals and commercial organisations other than lawful credit reference agencies.
Anyone who hasn’t received a form by 31 August can print a form off at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or call the helpline on 01952 383206.
