I remember when Christmas jumpers knitted by your nan were stuffed in the back of the cupboard. So what possess millions of people to willingly wear clothes featuring gargantuan Christmas puddings, pompoms and glued-on googly eyes?

In the same vein as Movember, the now annual fundraising event is in its fourth year. This years Christmas Jumper Day has joined forces with ITV Text Santa. Save the Children - the charity that started the official Christmas Jumper Day - is teaming up with ITV's Text Santa and two other fantastic charities – Macmillan Cancer Support and Make-A-Wish® UK – to be a part of Text Santa Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 18 December.

The annual fashion to wear a seasonal knit can be traced back to 2011, when Amazon reported a 600 per cent increase in sales from the previous year.

Snowflakes, reindeer and Santa ranked the top three jumper designs, according to a survey by Save the Children, but a fifth of people opt for a scandi-chic style knits they can wear into the New Year.

So how do you do your charitable bit in a Christmas knit?

Whether you go wacky in your woolly, or simply wear your festive jumper with friends, at work or at school on Friday 18 December, fundraise for Text Santa and help give hope this Christmas. Click here for a fundraising kit.
