G. N. Badley & Sons butchers in Gibbons Road, Trench, was set up in March 1976 by Gordon Badley and his son Keith - and now it is run by Keith’s widow Kay and son Simon.

To mark the occasion the business will celebrate the staple products which have been sold since the very first day they opened.

Throughout March there will be offers on sausages, pork pies, basic cuts of meat, burgers and dry cured bacon.

And Simon, who now heads the enterprise as managing director, believes family butchers can still compete with and survive the competition from supermarket giants.

He said: “I am so pleased with how we have built the business.

“The fact we are celebrating our 40th anniversary this month shows just how strong we are.

“We remain loyal to our customers and we recognise what they need. We know that people like a personal touch, which supermarkets cannot offer.

“We give advice on the right cut, how to cook the meat, what works well for different recipes and all that is knowledge is lacking from a supermarket counter.”

The company was first launched as a wholesale and catering focused company with butcher and catering establishments throughout the West Midlands.

But in 2000, Keith began to take a more retail focus and soon established a reputation as a reliable family butcher.

Keith sadly passed away in 2011 but under the guidance of Simon and Kay the business is still going from strength to strength.

The website launched in 2012 with an online shop which now caters for customers from London to Scotland.

“This month we wanted to do something to celebrate where we have come from and how we have grown,” Mr Badley added.

“So next week (March 7 - 13) the special offer will be on our pork pie, the following week we will give customers an offer classic sausages, following that will be an offer on dry cured bacon and during the final week of March we will give an offer on beef steak burgers.”

The offers will also fall in line with national celebrations such as British Pie Week and National Butchers Week, which both fall in March.

The family firm is also encouraging customers to let them know when their birthday is and is giving away a bottle of fizz to one person every month for their birthday.

Simon added: “After my father died in 2011, we wanted to carry on the business. It was hard but it was so important to us and we want to continue to move the business forward and make it grow.

“We pride ourselves on offering the customer the easiest experience for them and we will continue to look for ways to improve this.

“This month is all about celebrating everything we have done over the past 40 years and everything we do now, looking forward to what we will be doing over the next 40 years.”
