Team members from the Park Inn by Radisson Telford gear up for mammoth charity cycle relay

Four team members from the Park Inn by Radisson hotel in Telford are currently in training for a team charity cycle relay that will cover a total of 1300+ miles over 15 days, starting out in Aberdeen and finishing in Southend-on-Sea.

The group from the Park Inn by Radisson Telford are joining forces with team members from 31 other Park Inn by Radisson and Radisson Blu hotels across the UK to take on the tough physical challenge in the hope of raising a total of over £30,000 for worthy causes along the way.

The 15-day relay will arrive in Telford on the evening of the 12th May and depart early on the 13th May with the dedicated team members from the Park Inn by Radisson Telford accompanying the baton all the way to Cardiff, cycling over 136 miles over 2 consecutive days in the process.

Lucja Leonard, General Manager of the Park Inn by Radisson Telford says “We are proud to be a part of this event, we’ve recently started training and although it’s tough and we have a long way to go, we are really looking forward to the challenge and hope to raise some vital funds for our chosen charities – Hope House Children’s Hospices and Telford & Wrekin Young Carers Service”.

As part of the training, the team are cycling 3-5 times a week and covering a total of 100-120 miles. In the coming weeks, this will be further stepped up to ensure all team members are at peak fitness for the challenge which will no doubt test endurance levels to the maximum.

Hope House Children’s Hospices – Hope House in Oswestry and Ty Gobaith in Conwy – provide practical and emotional support to families facing the pain of losing their precious child. When a parent is told their child will not live to be an adult it is the start of an agonising journey. A childhood terminal illness challenges every belief, emotion and dream a parent may have for their special son or daughter. It costs over £4 million a year to run both hospices which rely almost entirely upon donations as well as many generous individuals who fundraise on our behalf by organising fantastic fundraising events across the regions.
Telford & Wrekin Young Carers Service (charity registration 702589) give support to children aged between 5 and 18 years old, who look after one or more family members (usually Mum, Dad, Brother, Sister or Grandparents) with a mental or physical disability, chronic illness, alcohol/substance misuse problem or HIV/Aids.

Throughout the charity cycle relay, the team are being supported by a number of local and national sponsors, including master sponsor Bibendum, along with: ALD, Adavid, Birtwistles, Bluebell, Coca Cola, Hobart, Matthew Clarke, MRP, Perry Scott Nash, Positive Safety Training, Reynolds and Tudor.

“We have been touched by the number of people offering support and willing to get behind us for the cause” Lucja adds. Anybody wishing to get behind the team can do so by contacting the hotel on 01952 429988 or visiting the team’s dedicated fundraising site www.justgiving.com/teams/parkinntelford .
