Ironbridge Gorge is up in lights for heritage festival

Light the blue touch paper to your weekend on Saturday September 25 by getting along to Ironbridge Gorge where there’s a spectacular illumination display celebrating the area’s status as a World Heritage Site.

You’ll be able to trip the light fantastic and loads more at the Ironbridge World Heritage Festival which includes a host of entertainment, a fair, street market, art and crafts along with a firework display.

The whole Gorge will be up in lights during the evening on both Friday September 24 and Saturday September 25, with the Ironbridge and the Museum of the Gorge lit up with multi coloured lights, showing off the sights of the gorge in dramatic style from dusk until 9pm.

As part of the light show the sides of the gorge will also be illuminated and huge space cannons will project massive light beams lighting up the night sky.
 
The museum gift shop opposite The Square will act as a massive projector screen, becoming the backdrop for a series huge projected images.

There’s something for all the family as the festival kicks off at 11am on Saturday September 25 with The Square becoming a huge open air stage featuring local musicians, singers, bands and performers throughout the day.

The Wharfage will become a large street market selling a vast array of unusual and quality goods and food.

For spills and thrills there is an old fashioned fair at the rear of Merrythought along with an arts and crafts workshop, to keep warm a local brewery will also be offering a range of real ales for festival goers.

And there’s more lights in the sky later on Saturday evening with a firework display starting at 8pm.

No one will go hungry with a range of food available throughout the day including pig roasts, a Thai cooking outlet along with the many restaurants, pubs and cafes of Ironbridge.

To get there a free park and ride service has been arranged from the centre of Telford, with free parking at the Darby House car park with buses leaving and returning every 20 minutes from Darby House.
