Full Steam Ahead at Blists Hill Victorian Town this Spring Bank Holiday ‘Steam in Miniature’ 6th – 7th May
Celebrate the Victorian world of steam over the spring Bank Holiday weekend at Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge. Come and experience the sights and sounds on Sunday 6th and Monday 7th May when a variety of miniature steam traction engines will be joining the Museum’s own collection of steam powered machinery.
Among the Town’s engines will be a working replica of what is believed to be the world’s first steam locomotive, built in Shropshire by the Coalbrookdale Company in 1802-03 to a design by Richard Trevithick, and the town’s steam winding engine.
Out on the streets of Blists Hill, you will be able to encounter ‘Little Billy’ the town’s own 1903 Wallis & Stevens steam roller. At four tons it’s tiny by the standards of its contemporaries but for this weekend it will be a giant compared to the miniature engines it will be sharing the site with, each a wonderful example of the model engineers’ art.
Open 10am to 5pm Blists Hill is one of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums. A great value Annual Passport Ticket allowing entry into all ten museums, valid for twelve months and unlimited return visits, costs £23.25 per adult, £18.75 for the 60 plus, £15.25 for students and children and £64 for a family of two adults and all their children aged up to 18 years in full time education (terms and conditions apply); under 5s free.
