Free childcare for two year olds in Telford

Historically the government has supported the childcare of 3 to 4 year olds in England by funding 15 hours a week of childcare across term time. However, Telford & Wrekin Council wants to remind parents in the borough that they might be eligible to benefit from the 15 hours of free childcare a week for children from the age of 2 years and upwards.

Many families could be claiming these free places but don’t know they are entitled to them. The Council has a number of facilities registered to accept two year olds, with spaces available.

If you are unemployed, work part time or are on a low wage then you may be entitled to claim this provision for their two year old.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “Early education is essential for the development of young children and these places give them the opportunity to learn and play.

“Many people in the borough could be claiming these free hours and don’t realise it, if you’re unsure, I’d recommend you get in touch to find out.”

So how do you know if you and your child qualify? If your child is two in-between 1 April–31 August 2015, then they are entitled to a place this September. Alternatively, if they are two between 1 September–31 December 2015, they are entitled to a place in January 2016.

If you want to be advised if your child is eligible call 01952 385423. You will need to confirm your national insurance number and date of birth with the advisor. Or click here for more information.
