Dress-up and join the Hatter’s Mad Tea Party at Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: Blists Hill Victorian Town: 26th – 27th July

Dress-up as Alice in Wonderland or another character from the much-loved book and go along to Blists Hill Victorian Town, near Ironbridge over the summer weekend of 26th – 27th July. The museum will be hosting a themed event, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, based on the Victorian novel by Lewis Carroll, which tells the story of seven-and-half-year-old Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world.  

Watch the Hatter’s Mad Tea Party, join the Queen of Hearts for a game of croquet and follow a clue-led trail around the town to find the grinning Cheshire Cat. Then see scenes from the book performed by costumed characters from the Sundial Theatre Company. There will also be hands-on activities for youngsters such as colouring Alice themed illustrations and a competition to find the best costume from the book.

Summer hands-on family activities at Blists Hill Victorian Town

Saturday 19th July – Sunday 31st August

Go along to Blists Hill Victorian Town during the summer school holidays and take part in a variety of fun drop-in activities from dipping fabulously colourful candles and building a wall with mini-bricks to discovering Morse Code and colouring in pictures of Victorian scenes. The fascinating museum in Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge, where life over 100 years ago is recreated, will be staging the activities from Saturday 19th July until Sunday 31st August; sessions take place from 10.15am-1pm and 1.30pm-4pm.

Discover more about Chinese inventions at Enginuity - Summer family workshops 19th July – 31st August  

Discover more about the fantastic inventions, science and technologies that have come from the East at the drop-in Made in China workshops to be held at Enginuity, near Ironbridge during the summer school holidays from Saturday 19th July until Sunday 31st August, between 10.30am and 3.45pm.  

Hands-on activities will include using craft materials such as tissue paper and brightly coloured card to make boats, kites and shadow puppets as well as the chance to have a go at printing. These activities will vary from-to-day and carry a small extra charge in addition to the museum entrance fee. There will also be a choice of family activities that are included in the admission charge, such as decorating paper bricks and adding them to the ‘Great Wall of Enginuity’, solving tangram puzzles and following a trail that takes in museum exhibits linked to the inventions of China.

Summer ‘Colourful Creatures’ ceramic workshops at Coalport China Museum, Ironbridge, Monday – Friday; 21st July - 29th August

Colourful Creatures’ themed ceramic workshops and activities are taking place at Coalport China Museum in Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge during the summer school holidays Monday to Friday from 21st July until 29th August.  

Go along on Mondays and join drop-in workshops to personalise a ceramic mug with your own brightly coloured animal using the on-glaze painting technique, while from Tuesday to Friday, try your hand at sculpting a creature from terracotta clay. The summer workshops at Coalport China Museum will be held from 11am until 1pm and 2pm until 4pm; ceramic activities carry an additional fee from £4, plus a postage charge from £3, if you want to have your colourful creature sent home after firing; museum admission charges apply.

Summer tile decorating workshops at Jackfield Tile Museum, Ironbridge - 21st July - 29th August, Monday - Friday

Drop-in to the summer eramic workshops at Jackfield Tile Museum, near Ironbridge and use your imagination to decorate a tile with your own colourful design using a once popular Victorian technique. The fun, hands-on sessions will take place Monday to Friday from 21st July until 29th August. Inspired by the Museum’s beautiful collection, you will use the tube lining or slip-trailing technique to decorate your own tiles, which are priced from £5 each (p&p extra to have your tile sent home after firing) plus the Museum admission fee. Workshops start from 10am, but allowing up to 1½ hours to decorate your tile, last admission is at 3.15pm.

Opening times and tickets

Open 10am to 5pm the Ironbridge Gorge Museums offer a great value Annual Passport Ticket allowing entry into all ten museums. Valid for twelve months and unlimited return visits, it costs £27.50 per adult, £21 for the 60 plus, £16.50 for students and children and £68 for a family of two adults and all their children aged up to 18 years in full time education (terms and conditions apply); under 5s free. Activities and workshops vary day-to-day and some carry an extra charge in addition to the museum admission fee. Individual museum entry tickets are also available.
