An up-date from Kelly Oliver Wilcox on the Winter Wonderland Ball.

Well it’s almost here and I am very very excited!! We have already hit the 4th of January (eeek) and this means that there is now only 10 weeks remaining until out Winter Wonderland Ball taking place at Hawkstone Park http://www.principal-hayley.com/venues-and-hotels/hawkstone-park  on the 19th March. Preparations so far this week have been frantic and I have quite honestly been scooting around like a lunatic. Even though I have organised many events before, none of them have been of such a magnitude. I today made a *note to self: next time I decide on a ball perhaps I should give myself 5 months, not 5 weeks to organise it. It’s a good job I do love a challenge!

I had a meeting this morning with a fabulous chap called Dave Sharpe who is going to be our compere for the evening: http://www.facebook.com/update_security_info.php?wizard=1#!/davesharpe.fb I truly feel Dave is going to bring that extra sparkle and we today made some secret plans to add in some proper little gems throughout the night.

I offer great thanks to Brian Taylor of Wyevale Garden Centre who I met last week and who is kindly loaning me some fabulous props to create the winter wonderland theme. This generosity goes hand in hand with what I am about to say next as I really have been so moved by the support offered from local businesses who have provided items for the raffle and charity auction. There are some amazing items up for grabs that’s for sure!

The capacity for the venue is 220 and folks we do not have all the seats filled yet so if any of you fancy a really great night out please get in touch with me koliverwilcox@googlemail.com or 07814086511. It’s only £35 per person and for that you get welcome drinks, a 3 course meal, all-girl live band Paper Doll, DJ, live auction, silent auction and much much more!

When they said cancer touches every one of us they really weren’t wrong… two of my great grandparents have had cancer and I am very pleased to say that one of them is still here today and going strong. Nothing however hit home quite as much as my best friend getting it. She is Elisa Thomason and she is only 31. As with so many it is no age at all to be getting cancer especially when you have children and when the youngest of which has only just turned 3 years old. I have been through every stage of Elisa’s cancer with her, from sitting week in week out on the ward entertaining her while she was having chemotherapy (more like trying to distract her from the pain and nausea) to helping look after the children and cooking meals. We all need friends at times like this and I am nothing special. If the situation were reversed I know that Elisa and my other friends would do the same for me… well at least I hope they would (he he he).

The thing is though if it was not for the amazing efforts of the hospital and all the treatment Elisa has had I would not in fact be able to do this for her in the first place. Whilst I sincerely hope not, one day one of us might be in this terrible position and I sincerely hope that the hospital will be able to show us the same care!

This is why Elisa and I are on this quest to put on the charity ball and raise some money for the hospital. The more support we can show them; the more support they can give us, if it happens to us or to our cherished loved ones. I really hope that you might show Elisa and I some support and buy a ticket to our ball or perhaps even make a donation if you cannot make it… if you can make it though we promise you a fantastic evening!!!
