This annual event is claimed to be the oldest flower show in the country
Shows were first held in 1831 and in August 1866 a show was held in the grounds of a Mr. Kinglake of Taunton and led, over time, to the establishment of Vivary Park at the top of the town's High Street. The Edwardian Park was fully restored in 2001 and continues to provide a magnificent backdrop to what the media rather grandly dubbed The Chelsea of the West a few years ago.
The Flower Show is held in Vivary Park in Taunton. The centerpiece of the show is the large competitive classes and floral class marquees. The competitive classes are open to all and consist of approximately 250 different classes for amateur gardeners, crafters, floral artists, and children. The floral marquee features traders who mount show displays of their flowers and plants. Around the marquees are a wide range of horticultural traders. The center of the park is an arena where events such as marching bands, dog displays, dramatic motorbike events, etc take place.
There is a discount for tickets brought in advance, so please visit the website to save money for this prestigious event.
In addition, the show would not be possible without the help of many volunteers,& they are always looking for more, so if interested apply online.
