A Feast of Music fit for a King – featuring our Father Willis Organ Brass Ensemble, Timpani,

St Mary Magdalene’s Fr Willis Organ has recently undergone a complete renovation with the work being completed by Michael Farley of Colerton Raleigh. The results have been spectacularly successful, and this event is to celebrate the organ’s renewal.

The concert will be hosted by BBC Somerset’s Charlie Taylor, and led musically by Miles Quick, Director of Music at the church. The Church Choir will be augmented by other local singers, and additional sparkle will come from a brass quintet and tympani. Choral items will include the two most famous and celebratory coronation anthems, Handel’s “Zadok The Priest”, and Hubert Parry’s “I Was Glad”. There will also be a chance to hear Finzi’s “God Is Gone Up”, which, like the Parry, features a restrained middle section, and gives an opportunity to hear the organ in quieter mode..  Enjoy the sounds of the organ, christened by none other than Mozart, as “The King Of Instruments”.

There will be an interval with refreshments and a retiring collection.
