  • Saturday 22nd November 10:00am until 5:00pm
Join Hermione from Weaving in the Wild to craft a sunhat from local rush. Immerse yourself in the time-honoured practice of rush weaving, an enduring heritage craft, using wild-harvested rush and rediscover the ancient connection between traditional crafts and the natural world.

Spend the day weaving your own sunhat made from bulrush, harvested by hand on the Somerset Levels, with Hermione from Weaving in the Wild. Connect to the natural world through this practice of bulrush weaving, a natural, heritage craft and use materials which were once integral to rural life.

During the day you will learn how rush is harvested and prepared for weaving, and make your own sunhat on a block/mould using a variety of traditional weaving techniques. The workshop is suitable for beginners, and those with some basket weaving experience.

You’ll come away with a beautiful sunhat ideal for everyday use in the garden or at the allotment, and a new appreciation of this once widely used and versatile material.

Hats will be made to your head size. *The circumference of your head (in centimetres) must be provided upon booking* so that a mould can be custom-made in advance.
