The Mumbles lifeboat was launched after reports of a sighting of an upturned boat off Port Eynon.
On Friday evening the lifeboat put to sea after an upturned boat with a body clinging to it was spotted.
The lifeboat reached the location approximately one mile off shore but found only a cylindrical object.
There was no body in the water.
The lifeboat crew stressed that whilst this time there did not appear to be an emergency the public should always alert the service if they see anything untoward.
Better safe than sorry.
