The formal naming ceremony for the new Mumbles lifeboat took place in spite of the foggy weather. The president of the RNLI - The Duke of York was due to perform the ceremonies of the naming and the opening of the new boathouse. Unfortunately the persistent fog got the better of him and his visit by helicopter had to be abandoned. The proceedings still went ahead with the boathouse opened by The Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan Byron Lewis. The state of the art boathouse cost nearly £12m to build. The RNLI depend on public donations and fund raising. The local branch had a target of£136000 to raise this year. They have so far delivered a fantastic £85000.
