Bill Gates is supporting the research of Swansea academic Prof Paul Dyson.
Prof Dyson is working on a cure to neutralise the effects of the tsetse fly which causes sleeping sickness.
This is a somtimes fatal disease for humans in Africa.
The Gates foundation which has provided a grant of $100000 for the Swansea project has also given a total of $30bn away.
