Realise Value not time

Our tomatoes are bought daily and are cut to size for you
The eggs are laid by special hens to the correct colour too
The bacon is selected from our pigs which are fed on Caviar and chips
Sausages have a silver star and are selected from rare breeds with large hips

So we give you value, refinement and above all worth
What we do and how, needs time, but we don’t charge you the earth

The beans are handpicked, counted and heated with care
The toast has butter from an Ireland cow not just anything from anywhere
When we cook the eggs whether they are boiled scrambled, poached or fried
They are carefully laid on your plate and not under a Mrs Bectors’ bun to hide

We apply ourselves to give you originality at its best
So you know there’ll be a little wait, sit and relax and don’t become stressed

The salads at lunch are surrounded by a homemade Quiche Lorriene
Carbonara has a Sicilian taste of mixed spice with a little cayenne
A daily tranche of fresh made sausage rolls adorn the coffee counter display
At times there can be moules and chips either neutered or with a sauce gourmet

We introduce you to food that our bodies deserve, to us it makes sense
As we have now Flamakeuche as an added culinary experience

So when you are in our cafe we have books and poetry to read
You can catch up on the daily scandals from the newspapers before you feed
There are recipe books which have influenced what we can serve
As often our menu is only a guide, and we do have small additions in reserve

We give your bodies so much more and keep your organs healthy and fit
We assist the NHS by keeping your immunity level high away from that inevitable pit

Although time to many is so precious and the stress can increase when there’s a wait
The uniqueness here defines that you are in a cafe where prep time will fluctuate
So why not just take in the nuance, look forward to your wine, meal and coffee
Or go ‘fast food’ where you queue in your car for an hour up the road for a Maccy D

Prologue… in answer to a review

Now is the time to change your view, just notice the good within others, don’t blame
If you find a mistake, let them know in a kind way, praise more than shame
When you critique, remember your qualities, don’t play and appear dumb
You may fear the retort to your criticism as you will not know from whence it will come

Smooth coffee provided the ideal counterpoint to the deeply satisfying and excellent sausage rolls. A truly memorable morning treat.

We went to David’s for there Flammekueche evening. Not really knowing what to expect. All I can say is what a fantastic evening we had. The Flammekueche was excellent, a very thin bread dough served with either cheese, onion and bacon lardons or a garlic mushroom version. Both were delicious. So much so we ordered more. Will definitely be going back another night.

A family group of eight of us went to see The Little Shop of Horrors last night. Youngest nine and the oldest seventythree. We had a great evening. Lots of laughter. The cast was very talented and never missed a beat. All have good singing voices and gave great entertainment. Very professionally done including the sound effects and all other support. Costumes excellent too.

All round a great night out and on our doorstep.

All credit to the Quay theatre team. Thank you.

I visited the Quay Theatre as a last minute spur of the moment thing, with 10 minutes to spare, to see PENNED UP. What a wonderful evening, the staff are so friendly, the bar welcoming and reasonable. but must of all the performance was engaging and truly enjoyable. Thank you!

We went to see Siegfried by Wagner - live from the Royal Opera House. This was more than 5 hours and we went fully expecting we would have had enough by the end of the first (of three) act - we are both amateur musicians and keen on Wagner but not being in our first youth, thought we might not last.... However we were hooked by the end of the first act and stayed to the end, enjoying it more and more, particularly the wonderful orchestral music in the third act. The volunteer staff behind the bar and in the two in the auditorium were excellent - very friendly, kind and helpful. This in spite of the fact that the number of people in the auditorium was only 9 including themselves! Very disappointing for the Quay. Perhaps people will give Wagner another chance when the final episode of "The Ring" cycle is live streamed at the Quay.

We had a very nice evening when I took my brother on 8th May. The staff were very helpful especially a lady called Debs, I think, as my brother who is disabled had had a fall on the way to the theatre and grazed his arm and leg. We were wearing lanyards declaring our roles and were very kindly showed seats bypassing the stairs. However, I have now been served with a parking violation resulting in a fine of £100 (£60 if I do not appeal or pay within 2 weeks). Apparently I failed to sign in my registration in the foyer allowing me to use the car park and as a blue badge holder, the disabled parking space. Please be aware of having to do this because even though I gave prior warning to the theatre about my brother's requirements, I did not know or see any notes asking me to sign in my car. I have not been to the Quay since before Covid so maybe this is a new procedure.

I won’t repeat my previous review, but a second visit with my family today endorses how friendly, tasty and marvellous this place is. Despite being fully booked, we were afforded a table for my hungry children and ever-hungry wife. The food was very tasty and the welcome was extraordinarily amazing, thank you Secret Garden Team.

Having read previous reviews of the Secret garden my wife and I were keen to have a meal there.
The restaurant is in a 15th century building that has a great atmosphere. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable.
My wife had the pea hummus and I had the lobster gyoza . The pea hummus was freshly made and very tasty . I was slightly disappointed with the gyoza in that the delicate lobster taste was lost to stronger tasting ingredients. For main course my wife ad a tatiflette that was beautifully cooked and I had the honey roast ham , new potatoes and greens together with a delicately flavoured whole grain mustard mayonnaise that brought the dish together. For desert I had the chocolate volcano that just oozed delicious liquid chocolate over the plate. My wife had a passion fruit sorbet which she loved. All the dishes were home made in the kitchen by the French chef . A delightful meal , reasonably priced making the perfect evening. We will return if ever in the area again.
