Wanted: Hotel and Restaurant Inspectors & Rescuers!
Are you a potential Alex Polizzi, a wannabe Ruth Watson or a frustrated Fernando Peire?
If you are, then a landmark piece of Southend seafront history needs “an investor with vision” says Dedman Gray’s Mike Gray.
The Esplanade on Western Esplanade is a landmark pub and restaurant boasting an iconic 51-metre frontage with panoramic views of the Thames Estuary – particularly from the first floor al fresco drinking and dining area that can seat more than a hundred people.
The building’s present owners – the Renewal Group - have secured planning permission for The Esplanade to be converted into a 58-room hotel complete with underground car park. The permission is valid until April 2013.
The Esplanade is on sale with leading commercial property agents Dedman Gray for £1.1 million freehold.
Managing Director Mike Gray believes it represents a great opportunity as the local tourism economy looks set to flourish: “Southend is very much on the up. We have award-winning beaches and shopping areas, state-of-the-art leisure facilities and the redevelopment of London Southend Airport is already bringing in overseas visitors and once again putting the town on the map. The Esplanade could be the perfect base from which to go and explore the local area, or visit London which is just 50-minutes away by train. It could also be a wonderful seafront bar and has consent to become a hotel but with some creative thinking it could become a fabulous restaurant with rooms. Or something altogether new, it just wants an investor with vision.”
He added: “The opportunity is there, we simply need an individual with the creativity and business acumen of Fernando Peire, Ruth Watson or Alex Polizzi to step forward and realize The Esplanade’s potential.”
