Tune up and have fun this half term

Calling all children and young people from seven years old upwards who play a musical instrument.

All from beginners to advanced players are invited to take part in a magnificent Music for Fun workshop organised by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council over half term.

It takes place at Southend High School for Girls, Southchurch Boulevard, Southend from 10am till 3pm on Thursday 2nd June, and from 10am till 12.30pm on Friday 3rd June.

The emphasis is on fun for all children who play musical instruments. It is a chance to make new friends, learn some new music in an informal atmosphere, and find out about other musical instruments too.

The workshop ends with a short, informal concert for family and friends to attend, where the young players will perform music they have been learning.

Players of all instruments are welcomed: including strings, woodwind, recorders, brass, percussion, drums, keyboards, guitars, pianos.

The workshop is split into three groups according to age and experience. These are beginners - up to grade one; intermediate - grades two to four; and advanced - grades five+.

Each group will perform at the concert, and the three groups will join together at the end.

The workshop costs £14 (£13 for Advantage Card holders). To book online contact

www.southend.gov.uk/mff or call 01702 215011 during office hours.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: “This is a great opportunity for young musicians to meet each other, to learn new music, and to learn how to play music together. As the workshop suits those from very beginners to more advanced players, this helps the young performers inspire each other, and enjoy the chance to create music in a fun and informal way.”
