Summer short courses are booming at SACC

Summer courses are booming at a Southend college. Starting Monday 2nd July, Southend Adult Community College’s 3-week taster programme has a wide range of interesting and varied short courses priced from as little £3.00. Classes take place at both the College's Belfairs and Southchurch Centres.

Education and Careers Adviser - Jackie Olver said, “This is an excellent time to start a part-time course and do something positive with your free time. Last year over 600 new learners came to the College and tried a summer school short course; many of those found the courses very interesting and went on to enrol on a longer course starting in September. If there is a course you are interested in, call on 01702 445700 to check availability as it isn’t too late to enrol”.

There are around 125 courses on offer including, arts and crafts, fitness, languages, performing arts and for the first time maths, English and verbal reasoning revision for 8-11 year olds.

Staff recognised that many children lose their learning momentum over the summer period and want to help bridge the gap of the summer holidays. The course will develop a child’s analytical skills, build confidence and help with year 6 SATs, the 11 plus test and the step up to senior school. In addition, guidance on how to help their child with their studies is given to parents.

The College offers a wide range of free English and Maths courses, as well as Apprenticeships and vocational courses. All courses are competitively priced with concessions available to those aged over 62 or those on benefits. If interested in any of the courses available, call the College on 01702 445700 or visit
