This is the 3rd Southend International Judo Championships at the Centre at Garon Park, Eastern Avenue, Southend, which involves more than 1,200 competitors from all over the world.

They will battle for titles in 140 categories from novice, junior, squad senior to master, and - new for 2012 - the Fighting Coach Trophy. This will give coaches the chance to demonstrate their top skills during the thrilling event.

The action starts between 9am and 9:30am each day, finishing at 5pm on Saturday, and late afternoon on Sunday. There will be two medal ceremonies each day at around lunchtime and at around 3:30pm until 4pm.

Anyone wishing to attend is advised to contact Southend Judo on 07899 961341 or visit: www.southendjudo.co.uk

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: “It is terrific that this most exciting spectacle will once again put Southend in the international sporting spotlight.

“We will be welcoming competitors at all levels from Britain and around the world, which will  perhaps inspire others to take up Judo for the first time, or further develop their current techniques.”
