Southend in Bloom’s Schools Awards Event, Monday 24th September 2012, (starts 6.30pm) at Leigh Community Centre, Elm Road, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, SS9 1SP.

At this annual school’s gardening awards ceremony the In Bloom Team will be joined by Zeeshan Mitha, Southend’s Youth Mayor, who will present awards to enthusiastic youngsters, staff and members of youth projects from across the town.

The aim of the evening is to celebrate officially the green achievements and creative art work of the Borough’s many younger gardeners.

In addition, the single school judged by Southend in Bloom to be the best in competition will also receive the coveted Yvonne Pedretti Schools Artwork Award for outstanding visual art work with a green theme. The winning school will receive a unique hand-made ceramic plaque made by Richard Baxter, the well-known professional potter based in Leigh-on-Sea.

Anna Ostler, Chair of Southend in Bloom said “We had a record number of schools taking part in this year’s competition. The standard of entries was very high. By involving local children, teachers and parents in this way we try to ensure the next generation of young gardeners  have opportunities to get involved and make the town a better place to live, work and study”.

Based on 'Britain in Bloom', Southend in Bloom is a free floral and environmental competition which encourages local residents, community groups, businesses and schools to take part and so help make the town look as attractive as possible.
