Young Southend singers in national TV charity challenge

Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs are practising their harmonies as they prepare to raise mountains of money for BBC’s Children in Need.

On Friday 18th November, at 7:30pm, the choirs will be meeting with four other school choirs from across the eastern region.

Together, they will take part in a fantastic charity event led by Gareth Malone, the presenter of the BAFTA award winning TV series, “The Choir”.

Held at Charter Hall, Colchester, forty-five singers from Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs, aged from eleven to fourteen, will have the unique opportunity to take part in this exciting venture.

The lucky youngsters will be performing to an audience of their family and friends, with each choir having their own performance slot.

Then, at 8:30pm the show’s excitement will increase a notch as the choirs will be joined by other young choirs across the country to perform through a video-link up that will be televised on the BBC Children in Need appeal night.

The mass of choirs, consisting of three-hundred youngsters, will be directed by talented choirmaster and “The Choir” presenter, Gareth Malone, for an arrangement of Avril Lavigne’s touching hit song “Keep Holding On”.

BBC Children in Need raises money every year for children charities, projects and groups across the UK.

It is their aim to ensure every child in the UK is safe, happy and secure, and has the chance to meet their potential.
