Whilst the big stores undoubtedly offer something for everyone, it could end up being something everyone's got. And what could get you wrapped up in the Christmas spirit more than a visit to a local Christmas Fayre or market. You might want to get up early this Saturday as there are plenty to choose from!

The Christmas Market at Southend Town Centre will be offering a fabulous selection of gifts, decorations and festive food!  Open from 8.30am until 4.00pm from Saturday 1st December and every Saturday until Christmas you can also indulge in the usual Farmers and Craft Market supplies of locally sourced meats, cakes, vegetables and much much more. The market will also been open on Sunday 23rd December and on Christmas Eve until 4.00pm so you know you can get the freshest foods to grace your Christmas dining table!

Or how about going along to the Love Leigh Road Party Day. Leigh Road has a fascinating and diverse range of independent shops, restaurants and bars and on 1st December from 9.00am to 5.30pm they are hosting a party with an exciting range of attractions and discounts.

Take part in the 'Odd Thing Out' Treasure Hunt, witness the St Michael's Messy Church Sheep Trail and be in to win a Leigh Road Hamper. Among the many delights and discounts on offer are free jewellery design from the Jewellery Design Centre, discounts at Ruby and Willow, Nic Inc, The Magic Wardrobe and Enchanted Florists.  You can win a giant teddy at Leigh Road Sandwich Bar, take part in Plate colouring at Oasis Coffee House, or pick up a free hot dog at Jim's Joint.  There will be crafts galore, a whole lot of fun and you may even spot the odd pirate!

If vintage is your thing then don't miss Betty Blue Eyes' Vintage and Handmade Fayre at Leigh on Sea.  Again on Saturday (it's going to be a busy day!) from 10.00am til 4.00pm this is a great opportunity to pick up a unique gift, or just treat yourself to a vintage gem before partaking of the delights the vintage tea room has to offer.  Head on down to Leigh Community Centre where entry to the fayre is FREE!

Why not help with a little bit of decorating this Saturday? No, not the paint and wallpaper stuff, it's Christmas so we're talking trees, baubles, angels and tinsel.  You can join in the Church decorating whilst the Christmas Bazaar goes on in the Hall of Hockley and Hawkwell Methodist Church.  There will be children's activities, where they can make their own decorations and stalls with gifts, toys, books and cakes.   Entry is only 30p and there are free refreshments for the children...oh, and Father Christmas will be in attendance!

For more details go to our Events page, and make sure you keep popping back as new Christmas events are being added all the time.  And if your school, club or organisation has an event coming up don't forget you can add it to thebestof Southend completely free of charge!
