If you’re over 50 and live in the Rochford District or Castle Point there’s masses of fun, free activities to keep you fit and healthy.

We’re not talking about emulating the elite athletic efforts of Jessica Ennis CBE or Sir Bradley Wiggins either, from seated fitness to line dancing or gentle swimming to body tone-ups, there’s something for all abilities.

Once again Rochford District Council is pleased to announce the re-launch of the highly popular Active Plus Games. If you’re aged 50+ you can get a voucher allowing you to take part in five sporting activities completely free of charge.

Already nearly 250 people have signed up and can use their vouchers for a variety of activities including swimming and Body Tone-up to name just a few.

In addition to the Active Plus Games, Rochford District Council are hosting a Free Active 50+ Festival on Thursday 21 March at The Freight House, Rochford.

Activities start at 1pm and run until 3pm, they include Nordic Walking, Line Dancing, Seated Fitness and much more.

There’s no need to book so why not come along, get fit and try something new. April also sees the start of the new Time for Life – Exercise and Life Skills course for the over 50’s.

This is a free six week course which covers fire safety, first aid, health checks and much more. It starts on Wednesday 17 April at the Freight House, Rochford, 1.30pm to 3pm.

Spaces are limited so book up quickly by calling 07740 626 226.

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Tourism, Heritage, the Arts, Culture and Business, Councillor Keith Gordon, said: “It’s great news that the Active Plus Games are back again for another year. If you’re over 50 years old and live in either the Rochford District or Castle Point Borough and want to get involved then please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we look forward to hearing from you and getting more people involved in the activities we have on offer.”
