Big chance for youngsters to sing up

Children aged from seven years old upwards are invited to join singing clubs to prepare them to move up to Southend’s internationally renowned choirs.

Youngsters are warmly welcomed to these clubs which act as training choirs for the well-established Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs.

One of these singing clubs runs on Monday afternoons from 4.15pm to 5.15pm at St Bernard's School and Arts College, Milton Road, Westcliff.

The second will start at Hamstel Junior School, Hamstel Road, Southend, on Wednesday afternoons from 4.15pm to 5.30pm. Both are open to children aged 7+ and have no membership or joining fee.

The choirs offer fun singing sessions, warm ups and new music - all within an informal setting. There are excellent introductions to the main Southend Boys' and Girls' Choirs.

For the Monday Choir please contact Karen Neill 01702 343583, and for the Wednesday Choir please contact www.southendchoirs.org.uk or 01702 215624 or 07774 412736.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: “The Council supports the work of the Southend Boys' and Girls' Choirs.

“These choirs play a massive part in the reputation which Southend enjoys in the world of music and singing, thanks to Roger Humphrey and Rosemary Pennington, and the creation of high profile performances which the choirs achieve both in the UK and abroad.

“It is important that younger children are given the opportunity to begin their singing within the informal environment of the Singing Clubs, which have been set up specially for this purpose.

“This is a marvellous opportunity for youngsters to make music in a most enjoyable and welcoming way.”
