Romance was in the air at Southend Pier Cultural Centre which hosted its first wedding ceremony on Saturday 23rd February.

Delighted bride Emma Hunter, and bridegroom, Ian Barnes tied the knot at the iconic venue at 3:30pm. Southend Pier has an extra special significance for them. Emma, 24, who works as a Care Assistant said; “The Pier is where Ian took me on our first date. It was an absolutely lovely day in the summer. We had a nice walk there and had our first kiss on the Pier too. It was very very romantic. “When we were planning to get married we found that the Pier Cultural Centre was licensed for weddings, and it just seemed perfect.”  Bridegroom, Ian, 22, is a paratrooper, and the couple live in Southend.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: “Congratulations to Emma and Ian for being the very first couple to get married at our very special new venue at the end of Southend Pier. “We wish them a splendid ceremony and all the very best for their future together.”
