Lord Stephen Green, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, has been touring Essex today (26 February) and seeing for himself how exports from local businesses are playing a vital role in boosting the UK economy.

He was in the county as a guest of the Essex Chambers of Commerce, an organisation which plays a key role in the promotion and support of international trade for county businesses.

The day started with a tour of two Rayleigh based businesses who export their products all over the globe - Hidden Technology Systems International Ltd and John Anthony Signs. Over lunch at the new Holiday Inn at London Southend Airport (opened October 2012), Lord Green meet and exchanged views with a group of of Essex Chambers of Commerce members from all over the county, whose key trade lies in exporting.  After lunch he toured the recently redeveloped London Southend Airport in the company of Airport MD Alastair Welch.

Trade Minister Lord Green said “UK businesses are rightly recognising that they can reap the rewards of looking outside Europe for trading partners, selling their goods and services to high growth markets outside the EU. The recent Trade Mission to India led by the Prime Minister which included six East of England companies, shows we are committed to supporting and encouraging a range of companies, both large and small, to do business there in the future.”

Essex Chambers of Commerce Chief Executive Denise Rossiter says “Promotion of international trade opportunities and support to exporters is an important part of the services provided by Essex Chambers of Commerce to our members and other businesses. Lord Green, Minister of State for Trade & Investment, has been hearing directly from some of the county’s exporters about their experiences and find out how Essex Chambers helped businesses achieve over £27 million of exports during January alone.
