Southend Rugby Club has a long and proud history dating back to 1870. Today the club has 5 senior sides and a 1st team which is one of the top teams in the Eastern Countries and competes in the prestigious National Leagues. The remaining teams play social rugby and compete in local leagues.
There is also a Junior Academy which made up of The Colts, and the under 17s to under 6s. The club hosts school mini and youth tournaments on a regular basis and offers first class facilities and opportunities to all aspiring players in a safe environment and in a friendly atmosphere.
Over the last few years Southend Rugby Club has set out to promote and develop rugby in Southend. Many schools in the town offered no opportunity to play tag rugby, so the club made contact with head teachers and now has links with most local infant and junior schools. This benefits both the schools and colleges, with players and coaches visiting schools bringing the game of rugby union to the children and youth of the town, and the club benefitting from growing membership.
The Club House, built in the early 1980s, boasts three bars, with the main bar being able to accommodate up to 130 people. It carries a comprehensive range of drinks and has a full premises licence allowing it to be hired out to the local community. Southend Rugby Club is definitely worth considering as a venue for your Meetings, Conferences, private party or wedding.
