'Let me take you to a place, where membership's a smiling face.....' That would be the classic Club Tropicana, the absolute essence of summer - they could play that song on Christmas Eve and you'd still be instantly transported to an exotic island.

And what is more fun than a Tropicana party? An 80's Tropicana party that's what! The Maritime Rooms in Southend are hosting Tropicana Nights this Friday August 10th from 8.30pm. Re-live those boogie nights, embrace the big hair and strut your stuff on the illuminated dance floor.  There will be giveaways for the best dressed – please note the line is drawn at shell suits (if only on health and safety grounds, never mind bad taste). Throw DJ Paul Marks, podium dancers and a chill out bar into the mix and you have the makings of the Ultimate 80's Party.

If you see yourself as a little more refined, or indeed if you recover from the 80's night in time to enjoy a night of contrast, then head to Summer Swing at The Westcliffe Hotel. Step back in time to when the Rat Pack ruled the world of swing, and relax to the sounds of Frank, Dean and the gang.

And as nostalgia comes right up to date, well you may not have met him yet, but Joe Gibson's Michael Bublé tribute has received much acclaim (particularly from the ladies it has to be said!). When Joe generously performed at a Help for Heroes fundraiser, his performance was described as 'simply amazing, he had the guests eating out of his hand and on the dance floor from the time he appeared..... Joe has an amazing presence and had the ladies swooning.' Yep, certainly sounds worth a visit to me!

Why not enjoy a bite to eat whilst you're there? Basket meals are available or you can book a table in the Lamplights Restaurant.

So if you're suffering slightly from Olympic overload, head to our Events page for full details of these great nights out in Southend.
