From 2 May 2013, passengers will be able to fly from London Southend Airport with easyJet direct to the Scottish capital, from as little as £23.89.

Year round flights will depart from London Southend six days a week, giving passengers every opportunity to experience the city’s world famous culture, history, architecture and sense of fun; from the Festival to Hogmanay and everything else in between!

Announcing the new route, London Southend Airport’s Managing Director Alastair Welch said: “Less than a year after easyJet first started flying from Southend, we are delighted that they have added another domestic route to our expanding range of UK and European destinations for our customers.”

He added: “Our customer research suggests Edinburgh is the most popular UK destination locally, so it makes perfect sense for us to respond to that and give passengers what they want. It also means that people who live near to London Southend no longer have to face a day long drive or tortuous train journey. With our reputation for efficiency of checking in, security and boarding and easyJet’s exceptional on time performance, journey times between Southend and Edinburgh will be just 75 minutes.

Hugh Aitken, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager believes the new service will be a big hit with the public -“We’re making it extremely easy and affordable to visit Edinburgh, or extend the journey further afield to other parts of Scotland by cutting the travel time and presenting our customers with great value. We’re sure the new service will be very popular with those heading to Edinburgh, whether that’s for business or pleasure.
