Fireworks, fun and the fruits of our labours in #Southend this October!

There's a lot to be said for the Autumn months. From the spectacular colours that nature bestows on us, to the satisfying crunch of leaves underfoot as we forage for conkers and acorns. There's the growing anticipation of annual celebrations drawing nearer... Halloween, Bonfire Night and of course, the annual visit from the big man in red!

And is there anything better than closing the curtains on a dark, chilly evening, lighting a few candles and snuggling under the furry throw with a mug of hot chocolate and Downton Abbey?

Ok, so the air is a little more bracing now, (not that we've done much 'baking under a hot sun' this year!) but why not get out and about and visit one of the family apple and orchard events taking place in Southend-on-Sea over the coming weeks?

On Saturday 13 October there is an Orchard Open Day at St Laurence Orchard. Enjoy apple tasting, apple pressing, a scavenger hunt, BBQ and much more.

On Saturday 20 October share a Harvest Supper of locally grown vegetable soup, bread and cheeses and bring your favourite apple desserts and recipes to share. The venue is St Marks Centre, Princes Street, Southend on Sea and there is a small entrance fee.

And on Sunday 21 October, Growing Together Community Gardens are holding an Apple Fun Day - along with all things apple there will be a raffle and tombola, music, wood whittling, face painting, bingo, a Treasure Hunt and a lot more for all the family to enjoy.

You can find more details of these autumnal treats on our Events page!

Have some fun on a Saturday night and root out the hats, scarves and gloves, and get out with family and friend to enjoy the spectacle of the fabulous FREE firework displays being held at City Beach every Saturday evening from 6th October to 3rd November at 8 o'clock. Close to the Pier and Jubilee Beach, each year sees Southend residents and visitors making the most of the best Southend has to offer, as darkness falls early enough for even the youngest family members to enjoy the evening entertainment and the stunning digital lighting and coloured fountains.

Southend is a fabulous place to be on a glorious summer’s day, but is equally spectacular on a slightly chilly Autumn evening! For further information and directions of how to get to City Beach please visit: www.visitsouthend.co.uk
