Cricket fans get chance to see a Unicorn in Southend!

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Southend Cricket Festival – so make sure you snap yours up quickly if you don’t want to miss out on all the action.

Essex CCC won’t be taking part this year after the county controversially ended more than a century of history by pulling the plug on its involvement in the five-day cricketing extravaganza.

But festival organisers decided to go ahead and stage the event without the host county to ensure cricket fans in the south of the county didn’t miss out.

Essex’s place at the festival has been taken by the Unicorns, a side consisting ofEnglish qualified, non-contracted players from the Minor Counties, Universities and club sides.

And their limited over games against Sussex and Kent at Garon Park have been included in the Clydesdale Bank sponsored CB40 competition.

The Unicorns face Sussex on Sunday 3rd June, with Kent pitting their wits against former Somerset bowler Keith Parsons’ team on Tuesday 5th June.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Group Manager for Tourism and Promotion, Scott Dolling, said: “Everyone is really looking forward to this year’s festival.
