Get online and back the bid for City Status!

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is urging residents to register their support for the town’s bid for City Status – by harnessing the power of CYBERSPACE.

City Status is the glittering prize on offer in a national competition which is being staged to mark the Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Government has set a deadline of Friday 27th May for submissions and Southend is currently finalising the finer details of its bid. The winner will be announced next year.

Now you can register your support for the town – and earn the chance to win some great competition goodies - by visiting the new City on Sea website at www.cityonsea.com

Southend's bid is being put together by a partnership which includes the Council, the Evening Echo, community leaders, key businesses and local organisations from the voluntary, faith, private and public sectors.

It will highlight the fantastic progress that has been made in the borough over the past five years, including the town’s cultural regeneration and improvements in education and economic opportunities.

Visitors to the new interactive website can watch a fantastic video entitled ‘A postcard from Southend-on-Sea’ which showcases the town in all its glory.

They can also watch stunning footage of the British Olympic diving team practising for London 2012 at the new Southend Swimming and Diving Centre.

There’s even the chance to win a fantastic prize consisting of

· a signed Southend United Football Club shirt, to be presented to the lucky winner by a SUFC player

· a pair of match tickets to a Southend United Football game

· a chance to sit in on the Southend Radio breakfast show

· an opportunity to read the weather forecast at Southend Radio and

· a Southend Radio studio tour and goodie bag.

You can even send your favourite photographs of the town to the website by e-mailing backthebid@southend.gov.uk

By clicking on www.cityonsea.com you can send a loud and clear message of civic pride to Westminster by filling in our online e-form.
