Come Friday this week, the children will have finished school, and many of us will be fortunate to have done with work until after the big man in the red suit has paid us a visit. So gather the family together and join in the fun at one, or more, of the events Southend has to offer on this festive weekend.

Is Christmas Christmas without a visit to the Market?  I think not.  Head to Southend Town Centre from 8.30am til 4.00pm and browse the stalls offering gifts, decorations and sumptuous foodstuffs guaranteed to pile on the pounds in the coming week (coming next month...how to shed those excess pounds!)  But for now indulge yourself, treat family and friends and sample all that the Christmas Market has to offer.  Open Saturday 22nd right up until 4.00pm on Christmas Eve.

The ACTUAL man himself is a wee bit busy at the moment, but one of his many helpers is waiting to meet the children on Southend Pier from Saturday 22nd December at 9.00am until 6.00pm on Sunday 23rd.  The children can get in any last minute requests, assuming of course they've been very good, and enjoy the festive sparkle of Santa's grotto.  And of course each child will receive a gift (even if they've been a BIT naughty!)

Normal Pier admissions apply and pre-booking is essential. Call Southend Visitor Information Centre on 01702 618747 to book a place.

Also this Saturday the 22nd, from 2.00pm until 5.00pm (so you can get a bit of a lie in!) Crowstone Christian Centre are holding their Family Craft Fayre and Christingle at 91 Crowstone Road, Westcliff.

Spend the afternoon enjoying games and crafts then enjoy a party tea and a short Christmas Service.  Make sure you're in good voice to join in with the carol singing to really embrace the spirit of the season.  Face painting will be available for a small extra charge.

Children do need to have an adult with them but the grown ups can relax with tea, mince pies and cakes in The Meeting Place Cafe. Cost is just £6 per child and details of ticket purchase can be found on our Events page.  Hurry though as places are limited.

If you fancy something a bit more grown up then why not join Southend Rugby Club for Christmas lunch and wine on Saturday 22nd December?  Sponsored by Worsley Wines this is also a great opportunity to purchase your Christmas tipple.  SRFC will be doing battle with Shelford and kick off is at 3.00pm - come along and give them a festive cheer!  Again you can find full details on our Events page.

Southend really does promise something for everyone, big kids and little kids will be feeling the excitement this weekend so wrap up warm, pull on your Santa hat and have some fun!
